Upcoming Event: South West Museum Volunteering Forum – Student Placements in Museums
The South West Museum Volunteering Forum will meet at the New Room in Bristol on February 28th 11.30am – 3.30pm, to explore the role that student placements can have in museums. We will be hearing first hand from two West of England museums, Yate Heritage Centre and B&NES Heritage Services, about their practical experience of involving students on placement from local universities and what this helped them to achieve.
We will also be using the results of a recent joint focus group to decide what action we can take, with West of England universities, to make the experience of placements better for everyone – museums, students, and universities.
Diana Walters, who facilitated the focus group (funded by MUPI and organised by SWMDP in partnership with two local universities, Bath Spa and UWE) will present its recommendations. This is your opportunity to tell us what you want to see happen next, in partnership with universities, to make it easier to benefit from high quality student placements. We want to get more successful partnerships for placements going in our museums, ultimately getting things done in new ways in our museums!
This forum event is for you if:
- Your museum wants to understand more about what’s involved in hosting a placement
- You want to hear how we plan to work with universities to make it easier to have student placements
Or… if you are an active museum volunteer manager and simply want a chance to meet others – to network and share ideas.
