Museum Mentor Required – Frenchay Village Museum

Roz Bonnet, 23.05.2017

An opportunity to become the Museum Mentor to Frenchay Village Museum has arisen. Frenchay Village Museum is situated in Begbrook Park and tells the story of Frenchay and its residents.

There are displays celebrating Frenchay’s links with the chocolate industry, mountaineering and the early history of New Zealand. The museum is a thriving organisation with a full programme of talks, walks and outreach activities.

Frenchay Village Museum is currently in the process of signing a 125 year lease on the building which will ensure that it has a permanent home. When this is complete it will start improvements to the building including a cloakroom and office and storage space.

The museum has Full Accreditation status.

Under the Accreditation scheme a Museum Mentor will provide the museum with professional advice and input into policy development and decision making.

To be a Museum Mentor you must have

  • A minimum of 5 years of working professionally within a museum and with recent experience at a curator/manager level
  • Relevant or linked qualification
  • A commitment to career long CPD

Research has shown that you should expect to provide up to 4 days a year support to the museum – including a minimum of two site visits.

This is a super opportunity to share your knowledge and skills with a local, volunteer led, museum working towards a major redevelopment.

If you would like to discuss this opportunity further or express your interest in the role please contact Julie Reynolds, Museum Development Officer at julie.reynolds@bristol.gov.uk
